Green Century’s Kate Kroll is heading to the front lines of the fight against deforestation in Southeast Asia, to witness the results of Green Century’s forest protection work.
Palm oil largely comes from Southeast Asia where large swaths of rainforest have been razed and burned to clear space for palm oil plantations for years, with devastating consequences for endangered species, local communities, and climate change.
That’s why Green Century began pressing companies to end deforestation in their palm oil supply chains. The swift progress surprised even us: just one agreement will prevent 1.5 gigatons of carbon emissions. But, we’re far from done.
Next month, our shareholder advocate Kate Kroll takes a special trip to Southeast Asia. There, she’ll visit a palm oil plantation, meet with companies we are pressuring to adopt zero deforestation policies, and sit down with government officials who play a pivotal role in supporting company progress with policy. Finally, she’ll finish up by presenting at the global UN PRI (United Nations Principles on Responsible Investment) conference on the global investor forest protection plan that Green Century has crafted and led.
Please join us for a front row seat on Kate’s trip, as she reports back from meetings on how the palm oil supply chain is changing.
