As all of us prepare to celebrate the upcoming holiday, many may be thinking about the conversations they will be having with family and friends. With regard to the environment and sustainability, “where do we go from here?” is certainly one topic that may arise.
If one were to only rely on recent headlines, the future might look grim. Green Century, our industry peers, our investors: we are all stewards of the environment. We are still here and we’re not going anywhere. In a time of uncertain environmental policy, the responsibility to improve our shared environment and conserve our vital natural resources lies with us. Together, we have the opportunity and responsibility to be custodians of environmental progress.
The groundswell toward a more sustainable and low-carbon economy has already taken hold, in part, due to the efforts of both investors and the private sector. On the corporate level, more companies are producing sustainability reports and the Securities and Exchange Commission is considering whether these reports should be required in disclosure review. Sustainable infrastructure may also be an area of opportunity for the sustainability-minded investor. From a financial perspective, coal is still struggling to compete with renewable energy sources. And, it’s important to remember that on the international stage, renewable energy production and generation continues to grow.
While we have our work to protect the environment and public health cut out for us, it’s important to remember that there is plenty to be thankful for this Thanksgiving.
At Green Century, we will remain committed to delivering impact for the benefit of our investors and their families. You can read more about the many ways in which we make an impact by visiting our blog. We thank you for your support on this journey.
