The Green Century Balanced Fund

The Balanced Fund is an actively managed fund that holds a mix of stocks and bonds that meet Green Century’s criteria for environmental responsibility. The Balanced Fund seeks to invest in companies that are:

Environmental Innovators
    • Renewable energy companies, including wind and solar
    • Companies involved in the management of waste and emissions
    • Sustainable agriculture and natural food supply companies
Sustainable Companies
    • Disclose policies and performance on critical environmental impacts
    • Minimize risks to air, water and public health
    • Extensive sustainability criteria implemented throughout the entire supply chain

Avoids Investing In
    • Fossil Fuel companies
    • Nuclear Power companies
    • Agricultural companies that use GMOs, factory farms or large-scale pesticide application

The value of the stocks held in the Balanced Fund will fluctuate in response to factors that may affect a single company, industry, or sector of the economy or may affect the market as a whole. Bonds are subject to a variety of risks including interest rate, credit, and inflation risk. The Fund’s environmental criteria limit the investments available to the Fund compared to mutual funds that do not use environmental criteria.

The Green Century Equity Fund

The Green Century Equity Fund screens companies according to their environmental, social and governance performance. The screening criteria include, but are not limited to, the following factors:

Environment
    • Efficiency of resource use
    • Management of waste and emissions
    • Environmentally beneficial products and services
Social
    • Impact on community
    • Product quality and services
    • Fair labor practices, including respect for human rights

Goverance
    • Sustainability reporting
    • Ethical business practices
    • Political accountability

Certain industries may impose unique and onerous risks and/or costs on society. Therefore, companies with significant business involvement in the following industries will not be included in the MSCI KLD 400 Social Index: alcohol, tobacco, firearms, nuclear power, military weapons, gambling and genetically modified organisms (GMOs). The Equity Fund does not invest in fossil fuel companies.
