Green bonds are a way to raise capital to support climate change mitigation and other green projects. Green Century was an early supporter of green bonds, and today, green bonds make up more than 62% of the bonds held by the Green Century Balanced Fund.
Increased interest has led to dramatic growth in the green bond market. But how are investors to know what makes a green bond “green”?
At Green Century we work hard to make sure the green bonds we invest in on behalf of our investors are truly making an impact. We seek investments that encourage renewable energy, clean water, and climate change mitigation. We also actively seek bonds that comply with the Green Bond Principles, guidelines for launching credible green bonds.
A sustainable economy is achievable in our lifetimes. But there is a lot of work to be done. The green bonds held by the Green Century Balanced Fund support projects like bus rapid transit in Mexico, the construction of the largest solar plant in Latin America in Chile’s Atacama Desert, and infrastructure improvements to prevent climate-related flooding in Belize.
If you are already a Green Century investor, thank you. If you have yet to invest, give us a call at 1-800-934-7336 to get started today.
