We are incredibly excited about the recently launched International Index Fund, which is the first responsible and diversified fossil fuel free international index fund. The Fund is yet another way we provide investors, like you, the opportunity to make a tangible impact through the power of their investments as we transition toward a more sustainable, low-carbon economy and world. It invests in both solutions-oriented companies, like those in the renewable energy sector, as well as familiar companies that meet outstanding environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria.

One of the more familiar companies held in the International Index Fund is Sony,* the Japanese electronics company. Sony is mostly known for its size and brand-name recognition, but what is less known is how environmentally conscious it is.

By 2050, Sony aims to have an environmental footprint of zero throughout the life cycle of its products and business activities. Yes, zero. And, it continues to show how it is on its way to meeting that goal. Absolute water consumption is down 54% from 2000 levels and greenhouse gas emissions are significantly down as well, 41% since 2000 levels. Equally impressive is the work the company is doing to address environmental and social issues within its supply chain. By conducting regular assessments at its own manufacturing facilities and those of its suppliers, Sony has eliminated conflict minerals in its supply chain, improved conditions for workers, and developed its own 99% recycled plastic to be used in its products, such as the camera in the photo.
