In October, Tyson Foods* — the largest meat provider in the United States – took a five percent stake in plant-based protein producer, Beyond Meat.* In response, Green Century Capital Management withdrew our shareholder proposal calling on the company to disclose the risks associated with the growing demand for plant-based protein.
We then sat down with Beyond Meat’s Founder and CEO, Ethan Brown, and Chairman of the Board, Seth Goldman, to learn more about how the Los Angeles-based company is bringing plant-based protein into the mainstream and changing the way both consumers and the food industry think about meat.
We wanted to learn more about where the company sees the future of food going, and why it sees Tyson’s investment in its company as a major opportunity.
Beyond Meat’s story is one of how environmentally conscious and socially responsible companies are growing, and illustrates the impact that concerned investors and consumers can have on even the largest companies.
Through our three-pronged approach to sustainable investing, Green Century investors encourage practices that help fight climate change, conserve natural resources and promote animal welfare.
